Marcus Keeley started his performance life as a poet on the Belfast performance poetry scene in 2007 but soon added comedy to his set. After returning from Norwich, where he had been a student, he founded Voicebox Comedy an anarchic mix of stand up, sketch and character comedy held in The Safehouse Arts Gallery. Voicebox closed it’s doors in December but has been reborn as a new monthly night at The Pavilion Bar on the Ormeau Road in Belfast.
Despite his youth his comedy has the feel of an old soul jaded with the world. He has performed all over Ireland and will be bringing his one man show ‘I was dark and it was drunk’ (also the title of his blog) to the Norwich Fringe Festival in May.
We talk about his influences, Voicebox, playing The Belfast Empire and the charity gig we did together at what we dubbed ‘The Failure Room’.
